Episode 94 is on the scene and we have a doctor in the house! Dr. Patrick Staropoli is this week's guest. The late model racer turned Vitreoretinal Surgeon describes his journey through late model stocks to winning a competition to earn an opportunity with Michael Waltrip Racing, being a winner in the ARCA Menards Series West Division, graduating from Harvard, moving to Texas to be a Vitreoretinal Surgeon and launching a campaign Driving to Flight Blindness. It is one of the most interesting conversations we have ever had on this podcast.
Alex Bowman ended a 80 race winless drought using wet weather tires in the streets of Chicago. We discuss the ramifications of this win, the idea of more timed races, electric cars coming to NASCAR and who to look out for at the Tricky Triangle at Pocono this weekend.
We review the wild CARS Tour race from Caraway. Brent Crews wins his second event of the year with a bump and run to Connor Hall late in Wednesday's race. Should Crews expect racers to keep that move in mind going forward? We discuss how rivalries are good for the sport in regards to a possible Carson Kvapil vs Connor Hall rivalry plus discuss how Lee Pulliam Performance would soon forget about Caraway after both of their cars had wild incidents. We also spotlight Jared Fryar's return to racing after injury and the other drivers who had good runs as the CARS Tour takes a two week break before Hickory.
The SMART Modified Tour race at Caraway on Saturday was won by Bobby Labonte. It was also the longest tour event in speedway history as it took nearly 2 hours to run 99 laps. We discussed the three wide move near the end of the race that led up to the multi car accident on the back stretch and whether or not the original move going into turn one was foul or not.
We also review the weekend in short track racing, preview the upcoming weekend and much more on another episode of DLN!
