Martinsville Speedway to host two NASCAR National Touring Series Triple Header Weekends in 2025
By Julian Austin
Martinsville Speedway which has been a staple on the NASCAR schedule for 76 years will once again spotlight the Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series with two triple header weekends in 2025.
On March 28th, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will visit the paper clip for their first short track visit of the 2025 season. Christian Eckes swept all three stages to claim his first grandfather clock in this event in 2024 while Corey Heim won the event in 2023.
March 29th, the NASCAR Xfinity Series will also run their first short track race of the 2025 season at the paper clip. Joe Gibbs Racing has won this race for the past three seasons with Brandon Jones, John Hunter Nemechek and Aric Almirola in 2024.
Finally, on March 30th, the NASCAR Cup Series will run it's first points paying event on a short track in 2025. William Byron has won this event twice in the past three seasons including bagging Hendrick Motorsports a win on a weekend celebrating it's 40th anniversary weekend. Kyle Larson captured a spring race win in-between Byron's wins making it three straight spring triumph's.
In October, Martinsville Speedway will be the home of three critical events to shape the race for the championship for the Cup, Xfinity and Truck Series.
Friday, October 24th, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will determine who competes for a championship the following weekend in Phoenix. The paper clip has been the site of intense battles in the past. 2021 saw Zane Smith who had to win the race to race for a championship overcome a late race restart to race his way into the Championship 4.
Saturday, October 25th, the NASCAR Xfinity Series will also determine who competes for a championship the following weekend at Phoenix. This race has been known to get incredibly wacky at the end. 2023 was a perfect example as teammates at the time Sheldon Creed and Austin Hill battled it out resulting in broken fenders and angry words afterwards while Justin Allgaier passed them both to cruise to his first grandfather clock. 2022 saw teammates at that time Brandon Jones and Ty Gibbs battle for the victory. Ty Gibbs bumped Jones out of the way to claim a win on the way to his first series championship.
Saturday, October 26th, the NASCAR Cup Series concludes the weekend with their own penultimate race of the season. 2022 saw Ross Chastain perform the unforgettable Hail Melon to race his way to a championship four appearance at Phoenix while Ryan Blaney raced his way to Phoenix to claim his first grandfather clock on his way to his first series championship a week later.
2025 promises to be an exciting time at Martinsville Speedway with other touring series to be announced for the season. In the meantime, the track still has three exciting weekends in 2024.
September 28th will host the Valley Star Credit Union 300. This event is the final installment of the 2024 Virginia Triple Crown for Late Model Stock racing. It is also the richest and most prestigious late model stock race of the year. It'll be a full weekend of action featuring practice and qualifying on Friday, September 27th. Four heat races will determine the lineup on Saturday before the 200 lap feature that night. The lineup for the heat races will be determined by the qualifying order the previous night. The top ten drivers in each heat will qualify for the feature. With no one guaranteed to be in the race, these heat races alone are worth the price of admission!
October 26th hosts the season finale for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Modified racing has a rich tradition at Martinsville Speedway. Cup drivers Corey Lajoie and Ryan Preece won the last two editions of this race but this year, a full field of talented modified drivers from the north and the south including Ron Silk, Justin Bonsignore, Patrick Emerling and others. Also on deck is a historic exhibition race for the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. These will be the first open roof machines to compete at this facility in nearly 70 years.
Finally on November 1st through the 3rd, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck, Xfinity and Cup Series will determine who goes to Phoenix to race for a championship. The Craftsman Truck Series will get the party started with the Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 200 under the lights. The Xfinity Series will do battle at 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 2nd while the NASCAR Cup Series closes out the weekend with the Xfinity 500
